William Malachi Nathan was born in San Diego, California. At the age of seven, he began to play the violin in elementary school. Then in junior high school, he progressed to the bass violin and gain honors in The San Diego Youth Symphony.
In high school, he played the tuba and the baritone in the St. Augustine High School Marching Band and progressed to electric bass to play in various local R&B and jazz groups. While growing up, William studied the technique of double bass violin at the Coady School of Music in San Diego CA. He attended college at University of California, San Diego as a part-time student and faculty staff member.
From there, William moved to Los Angeles, California and began performing with such great artists as Ronnie Laws and Bobby Lyle. He then moved on to collaborate with many great musicians like: Bennie Maupin, Brad Wilson Live, Ray Johnson, King Ernest, Mayuto Correa, Ndugu Chancler, Patti La Belle‘s (Body Language The Play) written by Michael Ajakwe Jr., Willie Bobo, Karl Denson, Alphonse Mouzon, Alex Ligertwood, and the former lead vocalist for the Carlos Santana Group, Rick Latham, a drummer who performs with: Edgar Winter, Lovely Previn, violinist and the daughter of Andre Previn.
William performed on Double Bass at the 75th Annual Academy Awards where he had the privilege of appearing on stage with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah in the award nominated song ‘I’ll Move On” from the hit movie: “CHICAGO”. William also performed on the movie “Three To Tango“.
William has been involved with many enriching opportunities, such as photo shoots with celebrities like Kenny G, musician spots on The Ally McBeal Show, a movie, Three to Tango; and was featured on the Amel Larrieux video, Sweet Misery, shown nationwide on BET’s Midnight Love Videos. Ndugu Chancler and Karl Denson are featured on some of William’s recordings like the Black Mink Bass, as well William‘s recent producing-writing and arranging, for the soon to be released CD entitled: I‘m The Man. In association with JAMB Productions, Inc., William has been the talk show host and producer for many Public Access Programs aired on AT&T Broadband, Time-Warner, Adelphia, and Cox Cable in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas; as well as the producer and performer in the programs featuring musicians presenting live performances. He works with many community projects such as Summer Concerts, County Arts Commission Projects, Trust Funds, Local Cultural Festivals, and has done a production of Little Shop of Horrors. William Nathan and The Elements was featured on the LA COUNTY Arts Commission Musician‘s Roster and has performed many special events for them
